Backyard Into A Fun Zone

When you have two kids in the house, outdoor play activities are a must. Enhancing their physical movements/gross motor skills helps them with their development mentally and physically. I’ve compiled a few of the items that help our kids with their outdoor play activities. These are some ways on how to enhance backyard fun. (A lot of these activities are geared towards my toddler but the sister enjoys them as well). Please feel free to browse through the links and see what works for you.

1. Bubbles In The Air

We got these bubbles during the summer time to have for outside bubble time and it was a big hit. 20 pieces of various size bubble wands were a good fit for my two kiddos. All you need is a bottle of bubbles and off they go exploring all the different shapes.

2. Golf Time

Next we got them these mini golf set. We took the kids miniature golfing with my sister’s family one day and the kids had an awesome time so we thought of bringing the golf to the back yard. The kids mainly play with it in the house but it’s an awesome addition to the back yard for a fun activity. It helps with gross motor skills and eye hand coordination for my toddler.

3. Fishing Time

Who doesn’t enjoy fishing? Have a bucket of water and have the kids fish away in fun. It helps them with so many different motor skills as well as eye hand coordination for your little ones as well. Who says bath toys are only meant for the bath tub. We used these fishing tools outside with a two buckets full of water. The kids enjoyed transferring the fish from one bucket to another and then vice versa.

4. Scooter Fun Time For Young Ones

Riding a scooter has been a fun activity for the kids. They enjoy learning to balance and push forward. My toddler learned within a few days and amazed us all. There’s a choice between a black and a pink and my son chose the black one. He impressed us with his learning skills, as it only took him a few tries before he was off and away.

5. Scooter Fun Time For Older Ones

Sister got this razor one that she loved. It has more options for older ones and is a bit catered to older kids. She chose the pink one. They enjoy their scooter time outside and often switch to ride each other’s as well.

6. Sometimes playing a game of corn hole is a great way to enhance gross motor skills as well as fine motor skills. It takes a lot of eye-hand coordination and focus to make it into the designated spots.

7. How about some carnival fun zone? Who remembers these knockdown the cans games at carnivals or fairs? These are such a fun activity for the whole family to engage in. It’s ideal for outdoors but it can be indoors as well.

8. My kids are huge fans of tic tac toe. They often play it with paper and pen, but this activity would be ideal for an outdoor activity in the backyard.

9. Do you ever playing limbo? What a great way to turn the backyard into a fun zone with a game of limbo. How low can you go. Do a small competition among friends and family and see who can stretch their bodies to the lowest forms.

10. A simple game of ring toss can go a long way. It’s such a versatile game for everyone and in all-age groups.

11. Who can resist a game of bowling? We used to always have the plastic bowling sets which would take forever to constantly reset it because it would fall down. The lightness wasn’t as ideal. With these wooden material ones, you wouldn’t have to worry too much about the weight or the wind knocking it down.

12. One of the classic games to be played in all times. If you haven’t played twister before, you are definitely missing out. My kids absolutely love playing this game to see how far they can go. It takes a lot of stretching and reaching but it’s ideal for the family to play.

13. Jenga seems to come in all size. We have the mini and the regular size but these big giant ones are perfect for the outdoor activities.

14. Do you have kids that love soccer or kicking balls? This would be ideal for making that ideal “goal.”

15. If you have a basketball loving family like we do, these hoops are ideal for outdoor fun. It’s a great way for the family to practice shooting and having a light competition with it.

16. Another fun game that requires a lot of eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. Trying to get those ping pong balls into the right spots can take some great concentration.

17. How about this giant version of the connect 4 game? Most of them are $100+ but this one seems ideal and the budget friendly too.

18. A simple game of catch and toss where you don’t have to worry about catching the ball with your bare hands. With these sticky friends, catching has been a lot easier for our young friends.

19. How about using their creative minds and having the kids create their own obstacles courses that can challenge them? Provide them with these givens choices, and see what they can do with them.

20. Do we have any scientists that are into launching rockets? Why not use their imaginations and practice launching their own rockets with these foam rockets?

These are some of the ideas on how to enhance your backyard into a fun zone that my kids enjoy having.

Depending on the space of your backyard, you can modify how the fun zone can be created. Sometimes even creating a theme for special holidays can also be extra fun.
